Origin & History
The Bracco Italiano is one of the oldest pointing breeds, with origins dating back to Renaissance Italy. Developed in the Piedmont and Lombardy regions, these versatile hunting dogs were favored by Italian nobility for their exceptional bird-finding abilities. Paintings from the 14th-15th centuries depict dogs remarkably similar to today's Bracco.
Nearly extinct after World War II, dedicated breeders preserved the Bracco Italiano, maintaining its distinctive appearance and working abilities. The breed was recognized by the AKC in 2022, though it remains relatively rare outside Italy. Known as "Italy's noblest hunting companion," the Bracco combines elegance with rugged working ability.
Today, while still exceptional hunters, Bracco Italianos are gaining popularity as affectionate family companions known for their gentle expression and loyal nature.
