Origin & History

The Braque Français Pyrenees type is one of two varieties of this ancient French pointing breed, developed in the Pyrenees mountains. (The second variety is the Braque Francais Gascogne.) Smaller and more refined than the Gascony type, the Pyrenean type was perfected as:

  • An agile pointer for upland game hunting
  • A close-working hunting companion
  • An adaptable gun dog for varied terrain

With roots dating back to 15th century France, these dogs nearly disappeared after World War II but were revived by dedicated breeders. Today they remain rare outside France but are prized for their gentle nature, elegant appearance, and exceptional hunting abilities.
