Drever
CKC Hound Group
Swedish Short-Legged Scent Hound
Origin & History
The Drever is a Swedish breed developed in the early 20th century from Westphalian Dachsbracke dogs imported from Germany. This determined scent hound was specifically bred to:
- Track deer and other game at a slower pace for hunters on foot
- Work in harsh Scandinavian terrain with excellent stamina
- Use its deep bay to alert hunters while maintaining scent
Recognized as Sweden's most popular hound, the Drever combines the tracking ability of larger hounds with the manageable size of a smaller hunting companion.
