Norfolk Terrier
AKC & CKC Terrier Group
Origin & History
The Norfolk Terrier originated in England during the late 19th century as one of the smallest working terriers. Developed in East Anglia, these plucky little dogs were bred to hunt vermin and foxes, working both above and below ground. They were originally grouped with Norwich Terriers (who have prick ears) until recognized as a separate breed in 1964.
Today, while still capable hunters, Norfolk Terriers are primarily cherished as affectionate, adaptable companion dogs that thrive in both city and country settings.
