Origin & History
The Plott Hound is a unique American breed developed in the mountains of North Carolina by the Plott family in the 18th century. Originally bred to hunt big game, this determined hound has these key characteristics:
- Descended from German Hanoverian Hounds brought to America in 1750
- Bred specifically for hunting bears and wild boar
- Official state dog of North Carolina
Known for their incredible stamina, courage, and distinctive brindle coat, Plott Hounds remain popular hunting companions today while also making loyal family pets for active owners.
