Puli
AKC & CKC Herding Group
Origin & History
The Puli is an ancient Hungarian herding breed known for its distinctive corded coat. Developed over 1,000 years ago, these agile dogs were bred to herd sheep and cattle across the Hungarian plains. Their unique coat served as protection against predators and harsh weather.
Pulis arrived in Hungary with the migration of the Magyars and became indispensable to shepherds. Nearly lost during World War II, dedicated breeders preserved the Puli, which remains Hungary's national dog.
Today, Pulis serve as both working herders and show dogs, valued for their intelligence, agility, and unique appearance.
