Origin & History

The Blue Picardy Spaniel (Épagneul Bleu de Picardie) is a rare French gun dog developed in the Picardy region during the early 20th century. This breed was specifically created for:

  • Waterfowl hunting in marshy terrain
  • Pointing and retrieving with exceptional scenting ability
  • Working in harsh northern French climates

A result of crossing local spaniels with English Setters and Gordon Setters, the Blue Picardy is known for its distinctive blue-grey speckled coat and gentle disposition. While still rare outside France, these dogs are gaining popularity among hunters who appreciate their versatility and calm temperament.
